E3 2016 Showroom Floor – Day 2

Day Two at E3 was SOOOOOOO busy. Instead of running through my day I will simply give you my first impressions of all the games that I got the chance to play and look at.

Spellforce 3

This is obviously the third installment of the Spellforce series. We got the chance to look at this game with Nordic Games. It is a top down RTS mixed with an RPG. There is a lot of micromanagement in these games but Spellforce does make that a little easier. I did like that about the game because I am awful at micromanagement. Alongside building up an army and expanding your village. You also have heroes with an RPG like levelling system. They can level up and gain new abilities. It brings new elements to the RTS system which are fun and make the game more strategy and more fun to play. The building destruction is a little funky and the micromanagement system is a little weird but those are my only complaints. The game is hand drawn in so all of the environments look amazing!

Elex

The second game we got to look at was Elex. This is very pre-Alpha and was a very short looking demo. We got to see the basic concepts of the game and that was it. It seems like there are a lot of random elements thrown in. It has magic, jetpacks, swords, guns, and dinosaurs. You need to understand that this game is far from done. But from what I saw, this was not a very exciting. It had so many different styles going on I did not know what to think.

Battle Chasers

This was the third game we saw at Nordic Games. Luckily for us, there were two other people with us in our meeting. They were super excited to see this game. When the employee showcasing it found out how excited he was, he went and got the developers to come and show us through Battle Chasers. So we had the game designer and animator walk us through the game. This is a very good looking game. It is a turn based dungeon crawler. It has a very comic looking art style which fits perfectly. Battle Chasers looks amazing. I did not know about Battle Chasers prior to seeing it and I was blown away. It is a very well done dungeon crawler and a very well done turn based game. We were told the game would take over 20 hours to complete but there is a lot of replay value. I will not dive too deeply into this game but it was a ton of fun to play and looked fantastic. I would highly recommend this game to anyone!

Technomancer

We happened to stumble into an appointment with Focus Home Interactive. This allowed both Cam and I to play Technomancer for a while. The first thing I will say about this game is when Cam got through the tutorial he quit, he had no desire to play anymore. That being set, I finished the first mission. The combat is a little weird. When I was playing through the tutorial I had no idea what I was doing. This is not a good sign for a game that is coming out very soon! When I finally worked through that I began to like the combat systems a little more. You can control electricity and use weapons in Technomancer. This allows you to charge your weapons and send bolts of electricity into your enemies. When I played the first mission I had some very good looking moves. But, it was overall very boring. I was not wrapped up in the game. It felt like something that’s been done before, and done better.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

This is a popular action First Person Shooter. I had a weird opportunity to play this game at the Microsoft booth today. For some reason, the Pc version had nobody waiting in line to play it but 20 plus people waiting for the Xbox version. When I played this game, I could not help but think this is the same thing so many other games are doing. There is nothing new there. The only new element is you get to pick how you want to go about the mission. You can select to go in and stun enemies, stealthily. Or you can go in guns blazing and kill everyone in your way. I did not get to play long enough to see if your decisions affect the game but it seems like it would. This game is fun to play, but it isn’t amazing. There are a lot of other great games out there right now that will overshadow the new Deus Ex.

Forza Horizon 3

The newest Forza game is coming to the Xbox One S and that is what I played it on. The game is very slick looking. There may be a very slight difference between how 2 and 3 looks. However, the off road element in 3 was way better than the driving in 2 was. I enjoyed playing this game. It is not much different than its predecessor but it was fun. There is not much more to say.

Forza Motorsports 6: Apex (beta)

This is the next game that I played and it is a purely racing game from the people that made Forza. The only reason I bring this game up is because it is currently free, right now on the Windows 10 store, if your PC can run it. It looks a little like Forza Horizon 3 but, it is free. The racing in this game is very forgiving and easy to learn. If these are the kind of racing games you like, you can try it now for free!

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands

There was a very long demo of Wildlands that was playable at the show. I got a chance to try the newest edition to the Tom Clancy franchise out and it was a lot of fun. This takes the elements of rainbow six siege that I like and adds it to a open world. The multiplayer element of this game makes it a lot of fun. It essentially is like playing a game with a very good story with your friends. I though it was fun to play and cannot wait to see what this game has to offer. I love Rainbow Six Siege and I believe I will also love Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. The gunplay is quite good, the driving is fun, and the multiplayer is seamless.

Kingdom Come Deliverance

If you frequent GamerLaughs.com, you know that I wrote a review of the Beta of Kingdom Come a little while back. I finally got the chance to meet the team behind this game and see more of what Kingdom Come has to offer. Kingdom Come Deliverance is a Role Playing Game based in Bohemia in the late 15th century. The map of Kingdom Come is based on what was actually there. Warhorse Studios has both a historian and a painter on their team. These two have made the world of Kingdom Come Deliverance as close to it was during the time this game is set in as possible. It is amazing what they have done. We got the chance to see more of the story and more of the armor. The armor system is the most comprehensive I have ever seen. I will go into this further later but I was even more impressed with Kingdom Come!

Deck Bound

This was the last game that I got the chance to play on day 2. This game is a card game that is actually two separate games. The cards in the game can be levelled up and upgraded. After they are upgraded you can take those same cards, and transition them into the next game. This is a cool element because what you do in one game will transfer over into the next game even though they are completely separate. One of the games is more of a dungeon crawler. The second game is multiplayer. Deck Bound looks interesting but I was not impressed. Luckily, we will have the opportunity to play this game more later and I will take a second look at both of these games and make sure to let everyone know what I think.

This is everything we got a good chance to look at on day 2. There is only one more day of this conference so continue to check GamerLaughs.com and our social medias (Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat) @gamerlaughs for final updates from the floor and about the event.

I'm the one who plays all the weird indie titles but is horrible with remembering names. Commonly found asking "Hey, did you guys play that one game that came out like a while ago with that weird character in it?".
