Overwatch has a new event: Year of the Rooster

Blizzard are at it again.  In case you didn’t have enough fun in Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland event, they have just announced another event merely weeks after the last one ended.

The new event will be a celebration for Chinese New Year, Year of the Rooster beginning January 24th. Whilst Blizzard have not released much beyond the trailer, some smart folks have found those ever-present Blizzard breadcrumbs they love to leave for us in the actual game itself. One Twitter user noted the D.Va and Mei skins were actually teased back during the Winter Wonderland event in their ornament sprays. Another keen-eyed fan has found an image in the game which appears to allude to a possible skin for Winston, brandishing a Chinese firework rocket as a weapon mod.

Mei’s new skin couldn’t arrive soon enough for some fans, with her Winter Wonderland legendary costume failing to hit the mark with some gamers. Many weren’t happy that it appeared to only be a palette swap and her main difference was in ice-block form. Hopefully this rework of her skin will be enough to end the rage. Your favourite mech-wielding menace D.Va also gets a new costume skin just in time for her skill rework. This is a full event so it will be interesting to see what map and game type changes will take place.

This is the first time Blizzard has placed two events in the same month; normally there is a gap between events for players to build those depleted in-game credits back up from the previous event; so a lot of players may not have the credits saved up to buy these newly released skins, with the Winter Wonderland event bleeding them dry. Blizzard is also yet to place an end date on this event, rather just giving us a start date.

Either way this is an exciting time for Overwatch fans!
