Injustice 2 Confirmed for 2017 (Trailer)

Loose lips sink ships hoping to save their reveals for E3.

What was made a possibility yesterday with the leaked photos of promotional posters was made certain today when Warner Brothers Interactive and DC Entertainment gave official confirmation for a 2017 release of Injustice 2. Along with the announcement, the game’s first trailer made its debut, and in true DC fashion, it was dark in the best way. In it we see Superman, Batman, Flash, and Aquaman beating the sweet hell out of each other in the rubble of what can only be described as a dimly lit warehouse, (maybe S.T.A.R. Labs?) Supergirl even shows up toward the end to join the battle royal, looking as badass as ever.

Whether Warner Brothers and DC intended to release the trailer today or at E3 is unknown, but this is certainly not a new experience from them. When WB unveiled the first trailer for Suicide Squad at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, it was intended only for those in attendance at the convention. Of course, that’s not how things work anymore. We just can’t allow anything to be special in this ever connected digital age. Almost immediately after the trailer had been screened it was online, captured and uploaded from an attendees iPhone. It spread instantly to nearly every outlet imaginable, and rather than chase down every link in a cease and desist firestorm, Warner Brothers decided to take the hit. They released the Comic Con trailer to the public with a less than amused open letter addressing the situation.

Whether these two events are comparable is irrelevant. The fact is Injustice 2 is on its way. Let’s just hope there still a little something left to be surprised by at E3.
