Wild and the Beauty of Creativity

Have you heard of Wild? probably not. While it may have its own feature on the Sony Playstation website, Wild Sheep Studio is actually still hiring developers for the game (if you don’t believe me the listings are on the homepage of their website). Wild is, at its core, a survival game based thousands of years ago when humans didn’t have much of an advantage over everything else around them. It is completely open from the very beginning of the game and you can choose your own path.

Wild is a HUGE game. It may not be the size of No Man’s Sky, but the area in which you survive is, according to the developers, about the size of Europe. In a game where the fastest mode of transportation is to turn into an eagle and fly around, getting from one end of Europe to the other would take quite some time. Along with the size, the way you progress is to learn the ways of many animals that you coexist with so that you can become them and use them to your ability. I can’t name a game that has ever been created that operates the same way that this one does. The example given by developers is that one of your tribe members has been bitten by a snake. In order to heal that person you must find a snake, capture it, and bring it to a certain shrine. Once there you must become the snake, learn how to survive as the snake, and you will then be granted the ability to heal the snake bite.

Wild is special because it is an idea that has never appeared before in a game. After learning what little information has been released about this game, I got on my Playstation 4 and played Grow Home. This idea of creating an environment, putting the player into that environment, and letting them craft their own story is something that works really well with the new hardware on the market. While I love to be a sniper in Battlefield, score hat tricks in Rocket League, or build a dynasty in Tropico 5, I believe that these games provide some of the best experiences out there. The ability to separate yourself from the competition of gaming and monotony of everyday life by entering into a world created completely from someones imagination is one of coolest things about the new systems. The graphics capabilities and upgraded technology is nothing short of amazing when you look at games from a mere ten years ago.

With all of this being said, if you are in game design and read this, PLEASE go apply to work for Wild Sheep Studio so I can play this game ASAP.
